Piercing Education:
Rebelliousness, spirituality,
individuality, symbolism or merely vanity, whatever your
reason for getting a piercing, understand that piercing
is considered surgery. As well, you are creating a
puncture wound in the body for which we are inserting a
foreign object. Thus, it is imperative that you take
your piercing seriously. Tribal Rites takes the utmost
care to perform a clean correctly placed piercing giving
you the best chance at a normal healthy piercing. It is
important that you take your piercing seriously and have
a shop behind you with the knowledge to give you correct
information when you need it.
1) When
searching for a place to do your piercing ask these questions.
- How long have they been in
business?
- Do they have a good
reputation?
- Is the shop clean and
organized?
- How much experience does
your piercer have?
- Is your piercer a
dedicated piercer or a tattooist who pierces?
- Are the needles single use
and pre-sterilized?
- Are re-usable tools bagged
and sterilized?
- How extensive is your
piercer’s knowledge of aftercare, human anatomy, and
piercing in general?
2) Shop
with your head not your wallet.
| |
Often, discount piercings are
discounted for a reason. Maybe it is a sideline
business, or maybe they just don’t know what they are
doing. Most likely, you will end up spending more money
later by getting a poorly done piercing and having to
fix it. Fixing piercings tends to be a specialty of
Tribal Rites. Remember, true piercers are professionals
with specific knowledge of a specific task. Experienced
knowledgeable piercers are worth the money you pay them.
|
Note:
Tribal Rites has very competitive pricing for
standard piercings ($19.95 for most piercings above the
belt). We do not sacrifice any quality in service
for these piercings. If you would like more
information on how we can offer such great prices please
talk to one of our piercers. Do not mistake our
discounts with other shops that offer similar pricing.
We still make sure that every piercing is done properly
with the utmost skill and advanced protective
techniques.
3) It is
never appropriate to get pierced with a gun.
| |
Guns cannot be properly
sterilized, and they tend to be fairly blunt devices,
which tear the skin instead of slice through it. Also,
shops that use guns tend to have poorly trained people
operating them. Shops who use guns tend not to fall
under government regulation. |
4) Always make sure piercers give
you aftercare orally.
| |
You should also receive a
handout that gives detailed information about
piercing after care. |
5) Make sure the shop has an
up to date license.
|
|
|
6) Find a knowledgeable
piercer.
| |
If you have piercing related problems make
sure your piercer will be available and has the
knowledge to give you proper follow up care. |
7) Educate yourself.
| |
Find out how your piercing should look, how it should be
performed, and what appropriate jewelry is necessary. |
8) Talk to your piercer.
| |
Make sure you feel comfortable with them. |
9) Make sure the shop has
and uses appropriate body jewelry for piercing.
| |

|
10) Having some medical
background such as RN, EMT, etc., does not qualify you
to pierce or tattoo.
| |
While a medical background has
some overlap and support for piercing it does not
distinguish one piercer over another. Good piercers have
years of practice and knowledge under their belt and
continue to educate themselves constantly. Piercing
involves a certain amount of artistry and a wide base of
knowledge that medical training does not teach. Good
piercers also have a bit of talent and flair for the
industry. |
11) Use your head.
| |
If a
piercer doesn’t seem to know the answers, can’t talk to
you straight about a particular subject, or gives
limited options for your piercing they may not know what
they are doing. Call Tribal Rites, you will notice a
difference. |
12) When you come in for
your piercing be sober, well slept, well fed, and
healthy.
| |
Poor constitutions can lead to a bad
experience. |
13) Always bring an ID with
you. Proper ID’s are:
See our Store Policies
- State Issued Drivers
license or ID card
- Military ID
- Passport
