Threaded vs Threadless

• Has a universal pin to fit all bars
• Only comes in 18, 16, and 14 gauge bars
• The end is held in by bending the pin slightly which causes tension against the inside of the bar.
• The tension can be adjusted to allow the pin to be more easily removed or hard enough to be semi-permanent.
• When we send out our pins we bend them to have medium tension. Although, we can set the tension to whatever you desire.
• Threadless is better for forward facing jewels.
• Pins are usually easier to use for jewelry that needs to be removed often.

Internally Threaded

• Only specific gauge threads properly fit their specific gauge bars. A 14 gauge ball will only fit a 14 gauge bar.
• Threaded jewelry can come much larger. Commonly up to 0 gauge.
• Threaded ends tend to have a better selection. Although pin selections have grown over the last couple of years.
• Smaller threads, up to 14 gauge, can be fairly universal between manufacturers. However, once you go past 14 gauge threading can become proprietary. This means one companies ends may not fit another company’s barbell.
• We do not guarantee that our ends will fit barbells from other shops. Please make sure you know the manufacturer of the end and barbell before purchasing.
• Internally threaded bars allow for smooth insertion

Externally Threaded

• Only specific gauge threads properly fit their specific gauge bars. A 14 gauge ball will only fit a 14 gauge bar.
• Threaded jewelry can come much larger. Commonly up to 0 gauge.

Threaded vs Threadless

Some jewelry has ends which can be removed and changed.  Tribal Rites carries three types of removable ends.  It is important to know which type of jewelry you want or have because three types of ends are not interchangeable ends are not interchangeable.

Almost all barbells have, at least, one removable end.  Some barbells may come with one end fixed. This is because only one end is designed to be displayed.  This is most common on labrets where the end is meant to be worn inside the mouth.

Externally Threaded

  • External balls are female, and the threads are on the outside of the bar.
  • Insertion with external threads can, sometimes, be more difficult.
  • Threading the end on is a bit easier than internally threaded.
  • External threads tend not to hold as well as threadless or internal threads.
  • External ends have more limited choices.
  • While most external ends from companies have the same thread pattern, some ends won’t thread other manufacturer bars due to loose machining tolerances.
